Fix A Leak is a blended-concentrated material designed to seal minor leaks in the plumbing. One 8 oz. bottle is effective for hot tubs and spas ranging from 250-1000 gallons (950-3785 liters).
When fixing a hot tub or spa the water temperature should be no less than 70°F or 21°C.
Hot tub and spa leaks can be detected by notable water loss not caused by evaporation, a wet spot on the ground, or possibly a slow drip coming out of the foam insulation. If the foam insulation surrounding the tub or spa is saturated with water the hot tub or spa has been leaking for a prolonged period of time.
The 32 oz. pool size bottle can be used for hot tub and spa repair if the 8 oz. bottle cannot be acquired. By using 1/3 of the 32 oz. bottle or less follow the same directions for a hot tub or spa leak. If water loss exceeds 1 inch in a 24-hour period it may be beneficial to purchase the 32 oz bottle for multiple applications if needed.
Most repairs in hot tubs and spas will last between 1-2 years.
Hot Tub and Spa Leaks
- Determine water loss in a 24-hour period. Fill spa to the original water level.
- Immerse bottle in hot water for 15 minutes. Shake well before use.
- Remove all the cartridge filters.
- Pour the entirety of the 8 oz bottle into the filter intake or directly into the spa.
- Day One: Run the spa for 4-6 hours alternating between the low and high speed jets. This step requires supervision. If the spa has only one speed, run the jets in 15 minute on/off increments for a total of 4-6 hours.
- Day Two: Brush the bottom of the spa before following the same steps as Day One.
- 48 hours with the spa off is required to confirm no further water loss or dripping.
- Drain the spa after 4 days as long as night temperatures remain above 40°F or 4°C. If possible drain the spa for 5-7 days and wipe down the sides with a warm soft cloth to remove any residue that may be present on the spa surface. If not done properly a white residue will remain. The draining process allows air to get to the inside of the plumbing helping the product to cure and creating a longer lasting seal.
- If temperatures dip below 40°F or 4°C the small amount of product can be filtered through the reinstalled filters.
- Immerse the filters in a large container of hot water for 10-15 minutes. Clean between the pleats with a hose or tap.
- Reinstall the filters and run the spa for an additional 4-6 hours and clean the filters again.
- Once this process is completed refill the spa, add the required chemicals and resume normal operation.
